Carlisle's Opinions
Again, this is Amanda's fault. *eschews blame* She and I talk usually before my ridiculous ride to work, and before I left this morning she asked me what Carlisle thinks about Rosalie, especially knowing that if she could, she would have someone stop Carlisle from turning her into a vampire.
This is probably one of the harder questions that I've been asked about him, since Carlisle-Rosalie didn't make any sense to me at all the first time I read through Twilight. I think it's easier for me to get now how Carlisle could make the mistake of changing Rosalie with Edward in mind. He's got enough of a provider complex that he can understand how dealing with Esme and Carlisle so in love would be hard to bear. In the end, he can't change what he's done. He won't kill her; Carlisle does love Rosalie, as he loves everyone in the family. He can hope that she finds some happiness in living with the Cullen’s, but he's been around long enough to understand that he can't change what others think.
Then there's a second piece to it as well -- flattery. Every once in awhile, when Rosalie makes it clearer than usual her thoughts on her vampiric life, Carlisle probably wonders if Rosalie ever took it as a compliment that the doctor had thought her too beautiful to die the way she would have. =T
In conclusion, Carlisle and Rosalie are weird.
Esme's Opinions
I think that Esme relates to Rosalie in a way she doesn't with the others, given their similarities. But I also think that she probably retains some guilt over the fact that Rosalie wishes she wasn't a vampire.
I imagine that she and Carlisle had conversations about finding a mate for Edward and felt badly that Edward and Rose didn't have the connection they hoped for. That being said, I think that Esme will defend Carlisle every step of the way for turning Emmett because she would want, above all, for Rosalie to be happy.
Edward's Opinions
Edward and Rosalie are like oil and water.
They fight like cats and dogs, which starts as far back as his first words to her not being kind or compliment or welcoming. He didn't want to fixed up by his 'parents.' He didn't approve of Carlisle changing so influential and well-known a person as Rosalie Hale.
Where Carlisle, Esme and Edward each came from a place they were probably known. All of them were low key members of their societies in the place when she comes into story. There is no choice but to uproot all of their lives.
*Which they don't do*
Because they allow her to go on revenge killing spree in her wedding dress instead. Which I promise you would have been Edward being all over that with the crazy.
Add to it that she's incredibly beautiful and insanely vain about needing everyone to compliment/notice/indulge her beauty, which Edward really doesn't indulge much. And not spontaneously on innocuous things. Especially when beauty is a skin deep quality and he has to listen to her thought process all the time.
Except that they also aren't like oil and water.
I think given time? Rosalie and Edward are remarkably alike though.
I think the introduction of Emmett upset their dynamic even more, but that as he warmed up to Emmett and she fell in love with him.....that all three of those relationships (Emmet-Edward, Edward-Rosalie, and Emmett-Rosalie) helped him to actually understand and accept Rosalie far more as a person. While she was coming into the drastic change of her life because of Emmett.
I think behind Edward Rosalie is the next person who is the stick-in-the-muddest about the safety of their family. About how nothing that endangers them is acceptable....and that in that he very much relies on her. I think the only reason he can't be pissed at Rosalie's drastic reaction to Bella and his early interaction with Bella is that he's clinging to the knowledge Rosalie won't let him go too far, won't let him destroy his family utterly.
Because he wouldn't let her and he has to have faith she'll stop him, too, if it comes down to that. It helps to keep him knowing his family's protection isn't falling apart as his sanity is.
Which says drastic things about his faith in her and her loyalty to them all.
She's also the only person who will work on cars with him, and you know they spend hours on hours talking about the cars. You know she's the one he goes to when he's buying a new one. You know he picked out the cars for Bella with her, after she agreed to humor him and at least not complain out loud about the inconvenience of the time....and let her help pick out colors and detailing.
I think Edward and Rosalie also bonded over music, since she's supposed to be the second best musician in the family. I bet you, out of the blue, when the family really isn't expecting it, Rosalie and Edward play together and it's terribly amazing. I think it would be impossible for him not find some comfort in that depth of a shared passion between them, too.
Jasper's Opinions
Mostly, Jasper admires Rosalie because she is, in a way, everything he feels he's not at the moment. She's confidant and strong, which he admires, and, yes, she is vain, but I think he tends to see no reason why she shouldn't be.
Needless to say though, I'm sure he gets just as annoyed with his 'sister' as much as everyone does when she's in her bitchy moods. Especially so as it messes with his own mood.
They don't seem to have much in common - mostly because we don't get to see their relationship much in canon and Jasper tends to seemingly hang out with Emmett more than Rosalie.
Yet, Jasper seems to share similar philosophies to Rosalie's and, though the roots for their beliefs usually differ, he tends to stand by her in a lot of arguments. As we've obviously seen a lot of recently with MWays. They're also both rather headstrong in that way, I guess, but he tends to sway more easily than Rosalie, which, again, I think falls back to him admiring her.
Jasper is also, by nature, very protective of women in general and this extends to Rosalie as well, but when it comes to her, I don't think he worries as much (which is not to say he doesn't still), knowing her past, what she's capable of, and her husband (Emmett's a big guy, guys!). I'm also certain that he totally would've rooted her on had he been around at the time of her killing Royce King and the others because he very much thinks they deserved it.
Emmett's Opinions
Emmett's a big guy, sure, but there's also the reason why I chose the LJ name of cullenteddybear for him. If you look at the Rosalie-Emmett-Carlisle thread that details his turning, you see a very vulnerable side to him. He's scared and he's in visible pain but no matter what, he tries to look strong for Rosalie. Above all else, I don't think he wants Rosalie to feel bad for asking Carlisle to turn him. He would have been dead either way and he's still trying to reconcile whether dead and walking is better than just dead. He's making the most of the situation though. The cut and dry of it is, in a way, Rosalie did save his life. They were meant to be together and he would do just about anything to protect the only family he has at this point. He always works to get stronger so that he can protect the others.
Alice's Opinions
It is of my opinion that the girls get along for the most part...but when they don't, well, we've seen what happens. :| I think there is some jealousy there between them...I mean, Rosalie can't get Edward to look at her twice but Alice and Edward are inseparable. And it's not in a romantic jealousy at all (Alice just said "oh ew gross" in my mind), it's just...Rose does like to be the attention-getter...and Alice gets all the attention from Edward.
There's also...the difference in reactions to being a vampire. I think Alice has an idealistic child-like attitude sometimes because she can't remember her past, so it just makes being a vampire twenty times cooler, and she's only had 85 years of memories, so she's still new to seeing some things, whereas Rosalie can remember all of her human life...and that pisses her off.
I'd love to thread the happier side of the girls for once, instead of all these arguments. I think it is very good, however, that Alice and Jasper joined the family after Emmett did...because without Emmett, Rose probably would have been insufferable :|
